Honda Jazz £16,500
X
Here we have a super rare Honda Jazz 3GM from 1984, not a Honda City import from Japan as they were known but a genuine UK registered Mk1 Honda Jazz. According to How Many Left just 4 are licenced on the road and this is thought to be the oldest known example in the UK.
History.
First registered on the 30th May 1984 the little Jazz was powered by a 1251cc 4-stroke OHC in line 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 55 Bhp and was mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Supplied new by Elite Motors (Tooting) Ltd to it's first owner Lady Jane Jennifer Cazalet and ordered in Flame Red with Blue velour interior. We still have the original bill of sale showing the purchase price of £4620.00 including Vat and road fund licence. Owned for 24 years it was then sold on the 2nd May 2008 to it's second owner who happened to be a Honda Main Dealer, August Motors of the Balmer Lawn Group based in Salisbury. Primarily used as a promotional and marketing vehicle it was always put on display in the showroom at each Honda new car launch. 16 years later and no longer being Honda agents the little Jazz had been parked up in the back compound and forgotten about. Eventually the new Dealership decided the Jazz was getting in the way and needed to be disposed of and was put on a Dealer Auction website where we came into it's life. Upon spotting it looking mucky and unloved (see photos) we fell for the little Jazz's charm and decided we needed to give it a loving home. So in February 2024 we became the third proud new owners and on a cold Winters morning we arrived to work to find a little red Honda Jazz sitting on our doorstep looking unkempt and sorry for itself. And so began it's road to recovery.
The Honda Jazz.
Despite her appearance now this Honda Jazz didn't need to undergo a full restoration, she is essentially totally original and unrestored. Hard to believe comparing the then and now photos but she was despite her grubby appearance in remarkably good condition. No welding was required, no replacement bodywork or trims, we didn't even need to paint her. Many hours of wet sanding, mopping and polishing bought back to life the original Flame Red paintwork. Bumpers and trims were revitalized and the interior was given a clean.
Mechanically we have had to replace the Carburettor as it had been cobbled together, so a replacement was sourced from the USA together with a new Fuel Pump. Four new Tyres and a new exhaust system were fitted along with service items plus a new Alternator and she now runs and drives perfectly. She flew through her Mot and was taken to FOTU (Festival of the Unexceptional) in July 2024 where she was met with great acclaim. There is a video on YouTube of her being interviewed with her besty, the Honda Motocompo scooter which can again be seen in several of the photos.
Please note it is just the Honda Jazz that is for sale and does not include the Honda Motocompo scooter. But as a point of interest when the Honda City (as it was known in Japan) was sold between 1981 and 1983 in Japan only you could buy as an optional extra the Motocompo. Specifically designed to perfectly fit in the boot of the City (Jazz) it was the smallest scooter ever produced by Honda and it folded into a rectangle for easy storage. Check out the Japanese TV advert featuring Madness on YouTube if you don't believe me. We happened upon one for sale in the UK and it was in the same colour as our Jazz so we couldn't resist buying it to compliment the two together. But the Motocompo is such good fun were keeping it. Sorry.
The Jazz comes supplied with a full set of keys and spare keys, key rings and original owners manual and service booklet, fully stamped up from 1985 to 2005. The original bill of sale together with various other bits of paperwork and a copy of the original sales brochure. It even has a Honda spec list perspex holder with it left over from it's promotional tour of duty. I will even throw in the Honda baseball cap and toy transformer, robots in disguise.
As you can see from the photos she is a remarkable rare survivor in truly amazing condition bearing in mind her originality and the fact she is unrestored. Try and find another I can guarantee you wont. If your a fan of the Japanese classic car scene this is a must have car and will just continue to rise in value. Maybe Honda UK should buy it and have it on display at their UK Headquarters. Give me a call, lets talk.
I'm happy to put a fresh Mot on her for the new owner but she should now be Mot and Tax exempt. Viewing is essential and welcomed, the Jazz is kept in our showroom so viewing isn't an issue if the weather is unkind although I wont be taking her out if the weather is wet.
